meet me halfwayThe Black Eyed Peas slow down the pace on their latest single “Meet Me Halfway”. The results are rather mixed. Lyrically it’s definitely superior two the groups last two singles, but with the ridiculous lyrics of “Boom Boom Pow” and the slightly less ridiculous lyrics of “I Gotta Feeling” that’s not saying much.

The chorus has pretty good lyrics. The big problem with the song lyrically (and overall actually) is the verses. With lyrics like: “I wanna have you around (round ) like every single day.” Then again the Black Eyed Peas have never been known as modern day poets.

With out a doubt the best part of this song is the chorus. Fergie does a great job here, in fact I didn’t even  realizet hat it was her singing at first! Fergie proves that when she’s used probably she can actually be quite good. The chorus itself actually sounds like it could have come from the early 90’s or late 80’s.

I have two problems with this song. The first being the use of Auto-tune, which sounds ridiculous when you’re singing a loved them song like this and it sounds badly out-of-place. The second being’s rapping in the verses. He sounds totally lifeless, his voice is void of emotion. He doesn’t even sound close to believable when says “I love always”. He sounds like he’s reading some part in a play that he really doesn’t want.

Luckily the chorus is repeated many times in the song, in fact maybe to the point of being a bit too repetitive. So to summarize, good job Fergie, to the rest of the Black Eyed Peas, you better step it up, because bands that rely too much on one person don’t stay bands for long. Then again with their recent success it would seem kind of crazy to step out of the Black Eyed Peas now.
